This two day course introduces students to SUSE Enterprise Storage and provides them with the skills to deploy, access, administer and monitor a basic storage cluster.  It is applicable to both versions 3 and 4 of the product.

Key Objectives

In this course, attendees will learn the following:

  • Understand SES 3 components and architecture
  • Install a basic SES 3 Ceph cluster using the ceph-deploy utility
  • Understand and use RADOS, OSDs, Monitors and Ceph data placement
  • Access and use block and object storage using rbd, iSCSI and Ceph Object Gateway
  • Using Erasure Coding
  • Monitoring the Ceph cluster

Section 1: Introduction to SES 3 and Ceph Architecture
Section 2: Installing a SES 3 Cluster
Section 3: Data Placement and Pools
Section 4: Configure and access Block Storage using rbd
Section 5: Access Block Storage using iSCSI
Section 6: Using the Ceph Object Gateway (RADOS-GW)
Section 7: Using Erasure Coding with Ceph
Section 8: Monitoring the Ceph cluster from command line and Calamari web interface


Course Prerequisites

Attendees should have Linux System Administration skills equivalent to SUSE Certified Administrator in Enterprise Linux 12. Familiarity with other storage solutions and distributed filesystems is helpful but not essential.
